Commercial HVAC service software for Canadian contractors
Most field service software is priced and built for the U.S. first. Before a Canadian shop signs, check the currency you’ll pay in, how your province’s sales tax lands on your own invoices, which Canadian accounting edition it syncs with, and where your records are stored.
We make BoltWright, one of the vendors below, so weigh our take accordingly. What we say about every other vendor comes from their own public pages, help centre or press releases, checked October 16, 2026, and the sources are listed at the end.
Of the vendors checked here, BoltWright and ServiceBox publish prices for Canadian shops in Canadian dollars. Jobber and Housecall Pro publish theirs in U.S. dollars, and BuildOps, ServiceTitan and ServiceTrade quote on request. Canadian sales tax support varies: BuildOps says it handles composite GST, PST and HST, Jobber combines several rates into a tax group, and Housecall Pro allows one tax rate per invoice. None of them, BoltWright included, publishes a commitment to store your records in Canada or documents French-language apps. Whatever you shortlist, build one real invoice for a customer in your province during the demo and check it in your accounting system.
Five things U.S. buying guides skip
- The currency on the bill. A price in U.S. dollars moves with the exchange rate every month you pay it. Ask which currency you’ll be billed in, and whether that can change at renewal.
- Your province’s tax on your own invoices. Depending on where the work is, an invoice needs GST alone, HST, GST plus a provincial sales tax (Manitoba calls it RST), or GST plus QST in Quebec. Each tax should show separately with your registration number. A system built around one U.S. sales tax rate per invoice can’t do that cleanly.
- The accounting edition, not just the brand. “Works with QuickBooks” can mean the U.S. edition only. Name your edition (QuickBooks Online Canada, QuickBooks Desktop Canada or Sage 50 Canada), and ask which records sync, which way, and how tax codes map.
- Where your records are stored. Canadian private-sector privacy law doesn’t require Canadian hosting, but some building owners, school boards and public-sector customers ask. Ask where the database, photos and backups live, and get the answer in writing if a contract depends on it.
- French, if you work in Quebec. Ask whether the field app, the office screens, and the reports and invoices your customers receive can be in French.
What each vendor publishes for Canada
Each row says only what that vendor’s own pages say. “Not stated” means we didn’t find it there, not that the product can’t do it. Ask in the demo.

Test one real invoice in every demo
A tax setting on a feature list tells you little. Build one invoice the way your bookkeeper will see it.
- Pick a recent job for a customer in your province, with labour, parts and one line you don’t charge tax on.
- Build the invoice on screen. Check each tax shows separately, at the right rate, with your registration number.
- If you work across a provincial line, do a second invoice for a customer on the other side.
- Send both to your accounting system. Open them there and check the tax codes and amounts match to the cent.
- Ask which currency you’ll be billed in and whether that changes at renewal.
- Ask where your records, photos and backups are stored.
- If you work in Quebec, ask to see a report and an invoice in French.
Where BoltWright fits, and where it doesn’t
BoltWright is built in Calgary for commercial HVAC service and maintenance shops, and priced in Canadian dollars. Canadian sales tax is set on each invoice, approved invoices go to QuickBooks Online, and the office checks hours before payroll with a CSV export. The QuickBooks Online handoff is newer than the rest of BoltWright, so we set it up and check it with your bookkeeper against your own QuickBooks company before your first real invoice goes over.
It may not fit if you need your records hosted in Canada, French-language apps and reports, or an integration with QuickBooks Desktop or Sage 50.
