Position 13 is always “-” (design revision). The decoder works with or without it.

How old is it? Reading a Carrier serial number
Ten characters. Positions 1–2 are the week of manufacture on Carrier's fiscal calendar, 3–4 the year, 5 a manufacturing-location letter and 6–10 a sequence number. Carrier's example 3112U12345 was built in week 31 of 2012.

What this page doesn’t cover
- This page covers the R-410A 50TC. Carrier's R-454B (Puron Advance) WeatherMaker rooftops carry different model numbers and are not covered here.
- Filter sizes are the factory return-air filters from the physical data tables. Confirm against the rack in the unit; a previous contractor may have changed the filter arrangement.
- Sizes 04–06 (3–5 tons), single-phase voltage code 3 and seismic packaging codes 3 and 4 come from Carrier's 2012 3–15 ton product data. Later 04–06 builds may differ.
- Size 09 filters changed between documents: the 2012 data lists (4) 16 x 20 x 2 in., the 2021 data (4) 20 x 20 x 2 in. Check the rack.
- Cooling code A: the 2021 6–15 ton data offers A and B on size 07 only. Older 08, 09 and 12 units can also be A (one stage).
- Electric heaters are field-installed accessories and are not identified by the model number. Read the heater's own label.
- The serial format is taken from Carrier's 2012 product data. The week is Carrier's fiscal-calendar week, so the date is approximate.
