Rheem's current Renaissance Line gas/electric rooftops: RGEC (3–6 tons) and RGED (7.5–12.5 tons) on R-454B. The 20-character model tells you cabinet, efficiency, tonnage, voltage, fan drive, heat size, controls and factory options.

What this page doesn’t cover
- Covers the current R-454B Renaissance RGEC and RGED units. The R-410A Renaissance units (RGEDZR, RGEDZS, RGEDZT and similar) and the older RKNL units use different codes and are not decoded here.
- The 15–25 ton RGEG uses a four-character option code and different control codes, so it is not decoded here.
- Positions 18–20 are the factory option code; Rheem prints AA0 when no options were ordered. Positions 18–20 mean the same thing on RGEC and RGED.
- Two places where Rheem's documents disagree: the RGEC model key lists heat code 12 as 125,000 Btu/h while its heating table shows 120,000 Btu/h input, and the RGED model key limits 225,000 Btu/h heat to 7.5–10 tons while its heating table lists it on 8.5–12.5 tons. Trust the rating plate.
- Filter sizes are the factory return-air filters from the general data tables. Confirm against the rack in the unit; a previous contractor may have changed the filter arrangement.
- No serial-number date decoder: Rheem does not publish the serial format in these documents or on rheem.com. Use the manufacture date on the rating plate.
